A man resolutely climbs a high pile of gravel. The effort is enormous because the gravel keeps sliding away from under his feet and he has nothing to hold onto. The images of this Sisyphus labour alternate with shots of a woman dressing before a mirror. She puts on countless pieces of clothing and takes them off again in an endless attempt to achieve the perfect seductive external appearance. While the man makes a second attempt to reach the top (will he make it?) the woman pulls the clothing steadily more agitatedly over her head. The swinging, arousing music of Data Direkt and Borut Kr@zišnik amplifies the impression that both persist despite themselves, driven by subconscious longings. One Way is a magnificent metaphor about the roles that men and women take upon themselves in the painful game of conquest and seduction. Each projects his or her own desires on the other and neither can satisfy the great expectations. The man is the most vulnerable because he does not seem to have any reserve at all: he puts everything he has into his efforts and that makes his failures even more painful. The woman, With her passive seductiveness, is more calculating. She also recovers quickly from the shock when her dream shatters. After her short, razor sharp video Disk (1995), Prosenc once more gives us a critical look at a universal subject. In doing so, she leaves much to the intelligence and interpretation of the viewer. Without forcing us in a particular direction, she provides us with the elements from which we can draw our own conclusions.
