Video/performance artist Jonas and music/performance artist/DJ Miller are collaborating for the first time in this unique project, loosely based on the myth of Narcissus and Echo, a story that has interesting structural possibilities in relation to the syvoices of sound and video. In this case, for instance, the closed circuit syvoice of camera and projection/monitor/image - in the case of Narcissus and Echo both parts of the myth are self-reflective as well as interactive. Although at press time this project was still very much still in the design stage, Joan Jonas plans to mix three pre-recorded tracks with two live tracks, weaving a twenty minute narrative around the implications of the myth. The central narrative will consist of three or more versions of the myth with adjacent continuums that will continuously break into and alter this central sequence. The images from the live cameras, perhaps focused close-up on activities by two performers (e.g. drawing) will be fed into and superimposed on this broken thread. Paul Miller plans to mix an assortment of musical sources that correspond to the ideas of the narrative as it is discussed by the two participants.
