A road movie soap for cyber punks? In any case, the three episode series 'Work, rest and play' has already developed a high cult level. In a fairly sarcastic story line, J.G. 'Crash' Ballard and William 'Neuromancer' Gibson meet Super Mario and Cliff Richard. A youthful protagonist takes a joy-ride through a dayglo landscape where present day England is about to sink into the economic recession. The media and the mass culture of nintendo games suggest, however, that it won't get that far with this modern Atlantis. Our hero is looking for a certain Frank. A metaphor for manipulating technology? Or does Frank represent the video medium? Or even better: is Frank the camera? 'Work, rest and play' also offers a feast of recognition, since references to 'Coronation Street', The Smith and 'Do the thing right' (the Radio Passion DJ's ice cube) are just some examples in a - fictitious? - television series that can also serve as a party game.
