'Oblique strategies' is Brian Eno's personal form of Tarot or I Ching. It is a set of cards with assignments and objectives which serve as antidote to certain work habits. Each card offers the user a new perspective and Eno has never been short of new perspectives. Started as a non-musician with an avantgarde glamrock band called Roxy Music, the Englishman born as Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno (1948) is known as one of the most important postwar artists. Although he offered support and inspiration to pioneering acts like Bowie, U2 and Talking Heads, the universe of the man who since 1993 may call himself professor of technology is infinitely larger than just music. In the book accompanying the crucial cd compilations 'Vocal' and 'Instrumental' (both issued 1994), Eno says: "I call myself an artist. It means I work in different media. I make videos, installations, soundtracks, cds, but I am also a producer. Besides, I lecture on American and European culture." All these aspects are presented playfully in 'One Eno'. Tim Booth, singer of the British pop group James, sums up the elusive essence of the creative genius as follows: "Brian Eno is an anagram of One Brain." In this production Lefdup through the form he chose tries to link up with the complexity of Eno the artist, which has resulted in visual fireworks, often engendered by computer manipulations.
