The chair

Many a sitting room in the sixties and seventies was graced by a real television chair to which the man of the house usually had exclusive right after a long day in the office or at the factory. This sitting comfort has now become a kind of electric chair and the viewer is the target of media terror. This terror expresses itself these days in a flood of disgusting war images. The one report is more horrible than the next in the race for the viewing ratings. Glued to the screen, the viewer feels as though he has been chained to his chair in a sort of 'Clockwork orange' nightmare which just falls short of forcibly keeping the viewer's eyes open.
