This videotape is only half the story. For ideally, 'Le mirroir virtuel' is an experience in space in which the viewer participates interactively and in which he creates his own virtual mirror images. Yet, this two-dimensional version gives a fascinating insight into the unique world created by the makers, through which we are led hand in hand with the original inhabitant AZERTYUIOP. Frescoes of synthetic images, fractal landscapes, digital cut-outs from everyday life, these constitute the frame of reference within which our guide exists. In what is called 'Infopeintures allégoriques' by the makers, dreams and emotions in this miracle world are represented, in a musical setting of - what else? - digital music and sampled fragments. To a pleasant rhythm nearly all techniques contemporary computers have on offer are used to show us this fictional world, as if in an attempt at a digital anthropological study into a civilization which we are not yet able to fully understand. Once again B. de F. and Jean-Luc Faubert prove that it is possible to develop a unique and consistent aeshtetics with the assistance of computergraphics, in which their original signature can be recognized clearly.
