Preceded by an original colour bar with brightly coloured terraced houses, Dennis Day shows us what it was like to grow up in Newfoundland, believing that you are the only homosexual in the world. "This is the window I spent a third of my youth staring out of." A difficult childhood is best assimilated with a lot of irony and Dennis Day's work is lavishly peppered with hilarious scenes. For example, cola with nacho chips are served at Holy Communion, and instead of Amen, 'all men' rings through the church. Clearly, fantasy and reality have run away together, but Day does not find that a problem. "I'm not making things up, I'm stirring things up." Anyone who has to hide his true identity for so long, automatically escapes to a fantasy world. Facts may be altered there, but the feeling of loneliness and desire is the same.
