In the summer of 1984, a hotelier in Hamburg had his wife murdered. Two years later, five suspects, known from the drugs scene, were arrested. Four of them got life sentences. The fifth, Monika Heintze, was sentenced to three and a half years as an accessory. At the time of the murder, the 19 year old Monika wondered what she should make of her life - as did the majority of her contemporaries, although they preferably do not do it stoned in a murder gang's get-away car. In 'Tätowiert', Monika has the opportunity to tell her own story and to act - to interpret in the broadest sense of the word. A proud woman with a sad tale full of inevitable doom: dad would have preferred a son, mother committed suicide, daughter turned to drugs early on and ended up a dealer. Her friend Gerd, "mein Adonis" and her teddy bear were the only points of light in the intoxicated fuddle that her life represented. Baethe runs together acted and narrated scenes in an original and equally confrontational way. For example, after realistically reliving her experience of kicking the drugs, Monika turns to the camera to give her opinion of this period ("unbelievably dirty"). The ancient "Verfremdungseffekt" is given new life.
