Piemule is the name given in Romania to the Czechs who emigrated to Romania around 1823 and who live there still as an ethnic minority. An enclave, somewhere in Romania. Initially, a few villagers express their admiration for Nicola Ceaucescu, one even declares that they would all be orphans if he was no longer there. In the village school, they obediently list the advantages which make the socialist life so attractive, but daily life shows another picture. Drag-harrow and plough combined with horsepower and a worn out motor, illustrate how very hard that existence is. Also obvious is the ubiquitous influence of the catholic church which also has repercussions on the songs that seem to accompany almost every activity. Leisure time seems to be spent mainly in dancing waltzes and polkas at the weekends. A youth prefers to dance to pop music, but the village girls don't seem to know how to cope with this. We are not further informed as to what pop music he was thinking about, which just makes us all the more curious. This video was made in 1983 and was caught up with the censor until 1989.
