In the light of the sun against the raw horizon, the camera moves backwards into the landscape. Rocky ground and thin vegetation are the basic ingredients for the widespread nature. In the background, two families have camped on the border between water and land. The sultry summer and the signs of approaching autumn are the motivation for the inland trek to augment the meat supplies for the coming winter. A life that was the norm for the parents and grandparents of the present population. A life inspired by and based on the majestic but bare land and meagre soil. Grateful use is made of the long summer days to track down the few inland caribou which know no better hiding place in the bleak surroundings than their instinct. Immaculate, the once so proud animals lie felled and skinned on the ground. The winnings for the winter, the still freshly steaming meat is hidden away in cairns for a rainy day.
