This short production without words fits in thematically with 'The colour trilogy', but is less burdened by pretensions. Furthermore, the wooly New Age veneer is replaced by a more traditional religion with centuries old roots in society. When building the first churches, they already took account of the fact that an impressive incidence of light can strengthen the awe of, and trust in, the supreme being. A follow-spot of natural sunlight on an altar or pulpit also evoked the suggestion that the duty envoy had come straight down from heaven. A fine carillon supplied further enchantment. The multi toned version shown in 'Zagorsk' can still be captivating. The dexterous way in which the local campanologist leaves none of the 13 bells unplayed - a pious version of a one-man-band - provides a fascinating spectacle.
