Son of Sam and Delilah
  USA 1991
Videotape, 27:00, colour, stereo
Look and shudder. With his virtuoso montage, Altas creates a fresco of emotions. Homo hate, transvestitism, sex, alcoholism, sublimated emptiness and cruel aggression: in the last years, Atlas' work seems to go further than the point where the photographer Diane Arbus, confronted with so much hell and damnation, dropped out through suicide. Atlas has become the most important chronicler of the New York fringe. Artistry and destruction seem to go hand in hand. The fury and perhaps hate as well with which Atlas sees the world around him lead to steadily more personal works of art which come across like a blow from a sledgehammer. Bang, bang, baby you're dead.
