Und die Galaxien hörten
  Germany 1990
Videotape, 10:53, colour, mono
A story is told. A story about the earth that can hear, the stars that can hear, the universe that can hear, only we people seem not to be able to hear. We cannot hear because fear is deaf. The story is a radio play, written by Maria de Alvear, a Spanish artist who works with music: she composes and gives performances. The thread in this video portrait is the radio play which tells about the various fears we go through, before we can hear. Shots of an interview with Maria de Alvear are interspersed with images of spreading fields in which stand poles with black flags. A voice continues: "And fear spoke, and the wind spoke, and the journey began, right through all the clothes of fear..." The camera slowly encircles the singing artist in the echoing cathedral, whilst the colours softly change in an equal cadence with sound and movement.
