Assorted, suspicious escapades and various pieces of evidence are revealed as a rough prologue to a 'film noir'. A Chinese tear-jerker provides local colour. Or indicates the place of disaster, which already has less to do with the romance of travel books. X-ray pictures of a suitcase reveal a pistol. A deep voice-over quotes from 'Queer and alone' by James Strahs - the same Strahs who we encounter on a sweltering day behind an open window, apparently in search of coolness, just like the woman on the opposite side, two floors down. The obsession with which the man observes his opposite neighbour rather indicates less legitimate intentions. A series of black and white photographs even suggest a fatal termination, even though the circumstances will always remain a mystery. Just as 'The Riddle' by Man Ray does not completely divulge its object. Or do the pictures on the curtains form an indication?
