Bilokacija / (Bilocation)
  Yugoslavia 1990
Videotape, 12:06, colour, stereo
'Bilokacija' means the simultaneous presence of a body in two places. Bilocation is a perfect word for the Ljubljana duo Gržinic/ŠmÍd to sketch an analytical process of the medium video and also that of the bloody history of the republic Kosovo in the south of Yugoslavia where there is regular social turmoil between the Albanian and Serbian inhabitants. Indeed, bilocation because the images are also in two places at once. Thus we see images of the ethnic skirmishes in the arm of a dancer and in the contours of a theatrical 'back eye'. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. The red five-pointed star erodes. In Yugoslavia as well. But the video image erodes too. A militaristic choreography and a poetic text manipulate the images, the frames, the content. "There is no way back, there is no future" proclaims a voice. No way back, no future? For Yugoslavia? For the medium of video? For both!
