Komodo

Videotape, 32:56, colour
The story of a man obsessed by the Komodo, a giant lizard from Indonesia is the starting point for reflections on survival. With his beloved and two friends the man makes a sailing trip to Indonesia with the intention of catching the lizard and selling its skin. His girlfriend films everything and, after the trip, supplies the commentary. The adventure ends tragically when, after having given up the hunt for the giant animal, he disappears on a trip to the nearest settlement. The idea of the Komodo lizard being the only surviving direct descendant of the dinosaur, evokes speculation about how the species managed to survive. A comparison is made with mankind, a species threatened by itself. It appears that the rare Komodo lizard has a lesser risk of becoming extinct than man who continues to seek out life-threatening situations.
