Muybridge revisited
  UK 1986
Videotape, 8:21, colour and black-and-white
As the title of this production suggests, 'Muybridge Revisited' is based on the trail-blazing work of the pioneer photographer Muybridge. In order to assist his work in analysing movement, Muybridge developed a camera able to take a series of photographs in quick succession. This repetitive withhod of photography made Muybridge the god-father of motion pictures. In George Snow's 'Muybridge Revisited', the original photos are re-animated and inter-cut with experimental video-graphics, and with pictures of people and buildings in Fulham, an area of London. Photos of horses jumping, deer running, men wrestling, women dancing, and withal beaters, cut in time to the stimulating electronic pop music of Brendan Beal, come to life in a roughly drawn street scene full of ordinary but somehow alienating architecture.
