Undulating bodies in an underwater world of incident light and weightlessness; an apparently peaceful world whose inhabitants spend their time in esthetic perfection. But once beyond the liquid boundaries of their environment, these creatures - half gods, half human - behave like the proverbial fish out of water: a 'Halber Mensch' indeed, as the musical accompaniment indicates. These are creatures complete only in their crystal-clear water , which is worshipped in an imaginative choreography. The creatures of this underwater universe have discovered a perfect equilibrium within their constant state of weightlessness. Lit from the depths, this well nigh heavenly kingdom also has its darker aspects. The movements of the dancers in these surroundings assume a ritual character. 'Waterproof' is based on the show of the same name performed in March 1986 by the Compagnie Astrakan in the Centre for Modem Dance in Angers.
