Common Mistakes
  USA 1986
Videotape, 15:03, colour and black-and-white
Mistakes in all their possible shapes and sizes. This production differentiates between four different kinds of mistakes: fallacies, errors, accidents and blunders. Each term is considered in three different contexts: in the world of children's play; in the context of American history; and as the personal life-story of a given adult. The production holds our attention though its unusual structure, coherent construction and multi-facetted approach to the theme. the silly mistakes of the children are cleverly yet artlessly depicted. The historical wrong choices - among them lobotomy, the Harrisburg reactor accident and an attempt to "civilise" the Indians - assume an absurd character through the particular highlighting of their more curious aspects. The ironic under-current also gives a comic tinge to the monologues the video contains about the sort of fiascos we all experience from time to time in our personal lives.
