'Instantanés Stroppa, Lancino, Manoury' is dedicated to three contemporary French composers and composed of meetings with Marco Stroppa, Thierry Lancino and Philippe Manoury in that order. The production is completely different from the usual music documentary in that Cahen has left the music so far as possible intact, while the composers' comments are shown in the form of titles on the screen. The music thus retains its primary importance. The rhythm of the images follows that of the music and Cahen has created a visual correlative to the atmosphere evoked by the music by the use of abstract imagery and slow-motion. Cahen has in each case placed the composer against the background most suited to his personality. A striking similarity between all three composers is their use of computer as an aid to composition. The computer remains subordinate, however, and as Marco Stroppa points out can never replace the combined intelligence and intuition of the human mind.
