Tim is following Robert de Niro evening classes ("you talkin' to me?") because he can't cope with his life any more. But he doesn't go as far in combatting the world's decline as the character played by De Niro in Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver'. In the day-to-day world, Tim works in an advertising agency with plans among others to use Colonel Ghadaffi in an advertisement for an acne cure. Tim wants to get on in the world and thinks up a programme for Channel 4. Two executives from the TV channel, in smart suits complete with Channel 4 logo lapel-pins, discuss and deliberate on Tim's plan for a cookery programme aimed at Arab terrorists. Tim's preoccupation with the decline of the Western world leads ultimately to his seeking refuge in nature, spurred on by an elderly presenter of natural history films.
