Map Of Dreams
  UK 1986
Videotape, 4 episodes of 11:00, colour
Four dreams with communication as the leitmotiv in stylistic devices such as language, gesture and image. The protagonist in the four installments of 'Map of Dreams' forms a relationship with the woman of his 'dreams'. They understand each other so well that their life eventually begins to get into a groove. Even in a dream; but then is this a dream? The dreamer also strays into what looks like a surrealistic Italian melodrama, a family picnic with polaroids in the sandwiches, and observes the moves in a living game of chess. The symbolism, which plays such an important role in the complexity of the dream experience in terms of the visualisation of suppressed emotions, is worked out in every detail. The four 'dreams maps' include recurring ingredients such as dance and theatre in combination with the pleasant music of Bill Nelson. Shobana Jevasingh's oriental dances are interspersed with choreographic arrangements by Micha Bergese.
