Llurex is the cryptic pseudonym of the Berlin video-artist Egon Bulle. 'Ironland' is just one of his many short impressions. He seems above all to be fascinated by the manipulation of time, and his way of freezing picture and sound, or modulating the pace of the narrative structure using brief repetitions of images already shown, give an individual flavour to his ideas about - for instance - Ireland. The way in which he has filmed the Giant's Gauseway and HeIl's Hole in Derry and Buncrana recalls one of John Gage's axioms: tones (or images) must exist in their own right and not as a vehicle for human emotions, never mind as a means of expression for bubble-blowing theoreticians. II follows that 'Ironland' must be left to speak for itself.
