'Puncture' is the title of a cassette in a tape recorder of the ghettoblaster variety, which appliance likewise provides a key to the strange and stylised world of Hiroshi Ito, in which silence is as important as sound. The apparent simplicity of the video is a mere illusion: the elements of each image are chosen with extreme care, arranged with caution, tuned to each other and provided with colour - or not, as the case may be. The result is a visual poem - aesthetic, detached, subdued - where everyday images become accents and pauses, while variations in speed and repetition of motifs indicate tempo and rhythm.
