These pictures of a gymnasium were taken in America, but could come from virtually anywhere in the world. The video isn't about the particular place or the feats performed there, but about girls - young women on the road to adulthood - who are every week obliged to spend there several hours of their lives. The teacher who sets the pace for their exercises is rhythmically accompanied by a voice off, talking about the different worlds that almost invisibly obtrude at these times. The girls observe each otheri chat about homework, teachers and boyfriendsi await their first periodsi and look to see who's got the biggest breasts. Texts appear in picture to emphasize certain aspects. The camera seems to take care, as it were, to look just past the girls' faces, as if to avoid any too direct contact in this period of sensitivity and promise.
