Twice a week for several months Holland's only committed illegal television pirate, the squatters video group 'De Groote Keyzer', has broken in on the Amsterdam cable network. After normal programmes end, the squatters come on the air with its news reports and films, made with primitive equipment, but no less fascinating, thanks to a mixture of anarchic humour and political militancy. The edition broadcast on 17 May 1982 starts with an eye witness report of an Amsterdam demonstration against the junta in El Salvador which met a surprisingly fierce reaction from the police, a cynical look at goat-wool-socked militant cyclists and a documentary about urban renewal in an Amsterdam inner-city area. These items were folIowed by a drama production set in the neighbourhood concerned, the Staatliedenbuurt, suitably pirated from Holland's official broadcasting network.
