Palfi brought together three virtuoso pianists from New Orleans. Each of them represented a generation of musicians: 'Tuts' Washington, Henry Byrd alias Professor Longhair and Allen Toussaint. The trio had never played together before, but soon got into the swing in this programme. In this document, sharply yet lyrically edited, the three express their great admiration for each other's talents. It is worthy of note that, despite their age differences, the involvement with the roots of their music closes any generation gap. The programme ends with the funeral of Professor Longhair. He died during recording, just before the three were due to perform officially together. Toussaint and Washington pay their last respects musically at the funeral. Palfi adopts an almost pedagogical approach to the musical line which links the work of the three musicians as he lets them talk about the influences they have had from each other and from others.
