J.J.P. Oud in Rotterdam
  The Netherlands 1981
Videotape, 20:00, colour
Made to accompany an exhibition in the Lijnbaan Centre in Rotterdam, this tape shows in chronological order the four residential projects designed by J.J.P. Oud in Rotterdam and The Hook of Holland during his time as municipal architect (1918 -1929). His work was greeted with incredulity in Holland, but in Germany it was highly respected and proved influential. Oud's son, himself an architect, provides a commentary on the spot based on first-hand experience of his father's ideas and what remains of them. Shots of the buildings themselves are augmented by aerial registrations and preliminary sketches. Lengthy still shots command intensive observation and listening. This tape provides a clear summary of (part of) the development of one of Hollands most famous architects in the Twenties.
