The core of this video seems to be one continuous movement which shows a chain reaction of associations. By taking samples of images made by others and citations from films then combining that with original material the maker creates a path through all the references. The tape starts with a shot from the video by Fischli & Weiss, 'Der Lauf der Dinge', which literally shows a chain reaction of unstable objects that set each other in motion. Here, however, the images are also used to start something else off: a story in images from the personal world of Manuel Saiz. A story that is not created by an unambiguous narrative structure, but by the references that are shown. In his earlier work – laden with drawings, images and installations – his preference for working with existent materials is often evident (here, also(film)images). Between all the discourses and meanings threaded together a story about cause and effect, precision and nonchalance, calculation and coincidence, but also about intuition, incidents and the transformation of meanings is created. Logic is no longer logic and stories are not about convincing others, but about the power of informal logic, about the seduction of the viewer in a sequence of images and following intuition to come up with new perspectives from it: a mouth on screen tells that A suffers from hallucinations when he experiences something and that the same is true of B, who, however, also hallucinates if he has to listen to A's story. B doubts A's honesty and is himself not honest. The ultimate conclusion is that they disagree about the causes, but they do agree about having gone through the same experience.
