In Japan the firm Horipro has developed a digital, virtual figure: Kyoko Date. She was created out of the fantasy of her designers and has various features and qualities of mime, voice or movement that many young girls have, who thus become part of the 'perfection' of Kyoko. Her 'personality' consists of digital data. Her virtuality gives her many advantages and makes it possible for her to exist in any environment. But there are also limitations in her design, and she has no free will. It is only a 'she' because we ascribe our own qualities to her, but this is not the same as an autonomous, independent life. Now that she exists, the question is how to turn her into an idol so that she can be exploited commercially to the greatest advantage.

In Germany a number of people are playing a role play game. They become for instance dwarfs, elves or people with corresponding characteristics, something that can be much further developed in a board game or in a virtual reality game, for in real world role play the possibilities are clearly limited. The story she takes part in places them in a town which has been cursed. The task is to find a new virtual princess, in this way lifting the curse on the town. Kyoko could be a candidate. Now they have to mix the digital with the real world, crossing the boundaries between the two. They ask Stelarc, Sandy Stone and Sugijama to help them develop the ideas and strategies. The different lines of approach to virtual reality are discussed by them and by the players and developers. They have one thing in common: if a strategy does not work, they can start again with a simple 'reset'.
