Vuk Cosic, originally a writer, is a multi-talented artist and critic. As you may have noticed on his website, he is also an excellent narrator. His website does not present just a list of items you can click on or go to, but the artist's story in hypertext, with some animations and images. They are the result of many happenings, media-experiments, conferences, art shows and net events that have taken place over the past few years. He has played an important part in the development of net.art.

Also, his site is not just a catalogue of the works Vuk Cosic has made, but also shows what is not represented on this site. His collages are made of fragments from other sites as well. Other pieces are presented on several other sites, in another context. And sometimes he adopts another identity: that of the media-archaeologist who scans for specific documents in a universal data space.

Sometimes his references to the arts are very clear and obvious. On other occasions, the image has a much more symbolic purpose, as if it carries another message that can only be read if one looks through, not at, the image. Cosic gathers his materials at multiple events and derives it from several locations. They come together not only in artworks, but are also the result of jobs. This makes his works very referential, almost contextual. For this artist the Internet is the follow-up of what we used to call art: “There is this state of final incompleteness, as Duchamp once said about his 'Big Glass'. I can open this document whenever I want – I call them documents, not art pieces – and do whatever I want it to.”

– Walter v.d. Cruysen
