In 'In Stabilities' Bain himself, together with Mia Keinanmi, takes centre stage in a black & white exploration of time and space. We see the artists seated at a table. In controlled, fluent slow-motion (probably recorded at high speed) the viewer watches the couple's choreographic acts. They perform strange jumps, they fall, they seem to be practising a specific kind of balance. Because of the extremely gradual delay they sometimes float weightless in the air, like astronauts without suits outside the Earth's atmosphere. This allows the viewer time to realize what exactly is going on in these few seconds. By contrast, during another scene at the table their movements are played back at a very fast speed. The quiet atmosphere now becomes frantic. This video deals with movement, time, space and perception, all recurring elements in Bain's work, as is the electronic music that accompanies the images.
