A tape for easy tune-heads? No, it’s all too fast for that. The movement is not easy enough for that. What at first seems like a crappy little tune played on a vibraphone (easy tune instrument par excellence) and drums, is not so very catchy. Image and sound undulate, reminiscent of the title. The flowing movement is anything but relaxing. After a few minutes, the senses are overloaded. A rising feeling of sea-sickness can only just be suppressed. But what are we actually watching? ‘Surge’ is not diverting enough to be shown during a TV-break. The viewer is overpowered by feelings of irritation and amazement. That blue stuff, is that smoke, paint or oil? And who’s that playing with fire? Unsettling! ‘Hic et nunc’ is possibly even more psychedelic. Images and sounds undoubtedly have neurological effects. But this is not a tape to talk about, let alone write about. ‘Hic et nunc’ must be experienced. It’s a trip, although the chill-out factor is rather unpredictable. If anything, the fragmented, manipulated images bring to mind the effects of Brion Gysin’s ‘Dreamachine’
