Mirages *Poem* Navigator
  1995
Website
Built up to be part of a sculptural installation with a replica of the wooden loudspeaker shown in Joris Ivens' documentary, ‘Spanish Earth’, this site explores the bi-directionality of new communication media, proposing a poetical and social journey.
Using the Poem*Navigator, visitors can interactively travel through an ancient Chinese poem, and communicate with other visitors by leaving their own messages. The poem, ‘Spring thoughts’, is taken from Ivens’ last film ‘Une histoire de vent’. It expresses universal themes of transience and immortality, and reflects on the longing of twe lovers separated by time and space. By clicking on the black calligraphed Chinese characters, a visitor can venture on an associative journey through its meaning.
