Videotape, 7:30, colour, mono
Nobody believes as much in fate, and nobody tries as hard to turn fate to his own advantage as does the gambler. He had therefore to be included in the series of videos Knecht made about fate. Using the rather rough animation of computer games, an environment is created with casinos, a race track, a boxing ring and a church. Gamblers have their own jargon, riddled with incantations and superstitions. The formulas used by the main character and his friend Spider to guard from evil and ensure luck roll by in red letters, as if to enhance their magical effect. “Buy a ticket, you already have the secret”. “Beat the flinch and steal the fate of us all.” But no incantation is watertight and ultimately, nobody can escape fate.
