‘Advent’ is an interactive journey through 25 days out of the diary of a fictitious person. These are not everyday events that are revealed, but gradual revelations which result in the megalomanic self-deification of an anonymous ‘me’. Each ‘day’ offers a different image in which only an Advent calendar and a diary text are fixed components. A new dimension of the objects in the image is obtained by clicking on them, as in some mystery computer games, and steadily more clues appear which together with the diary texts constitute the apocalyptic line of ‘Advent’. The sober screens show personal photos of people, interiors and alienating landscapes (the bank of a river keeps coming back) or architecture. You progress by clicking on a day on the Advent calendar. The structure of ‘Advent’ is particularly compelling: you have to follow the calendar both linearly and chronologically and you can only activate the next day after the diary text of the current day has been opened. This prevents you from clicking willy nilly and rushing through the disc in an arbitrary fashion. Only when you have gone right through ‘Advent’ can you go back to random data. Then, to your great surprise, new elements appear.
