Videotape, 4:30 min colour, mono
The notice at the end of this tape of limited duration but rich content is not just a judicial formality to protect copyright; it is a proud statement of principle, a revealing motto, a pointed erotic summary: © SUPERDYKE. The credits too, which immediately precede, reveal where Cheang found her collaborators, nay - gang members, for this pleasurable production: in the circles of united and like-minded ‘O.K. Girls’ and ‘Talking dykes’. An obligatory picture of a cherry orchard in full spring glory gives away that we are in Japan, where beauty and pleasure seekers race by metro from the hectic metropolis to the unspoiled countryside to quench themselves with this cyclical natural phenomenon. The first blossom is the starting signal for all kinds of traditional fertility festivals which Cheang interprets very personally and physically. The girls are already enmeshed in the metro compartment, aroused by the soft music from the intercom. That which fills the heart, overflows the image: close-ups of pink flesh, net stockings, rippling water, pubic hair. Finally, a few women give a short description of the object of their desires and sigh ‘I didn’t know that this was possible.’
