The definition of ‘interface’ in the standard Dutch language dictionary (Van Dale) has not changed since 1984: ‘coupling between different computer systems’. It is therefore very difficult to arrive at a meaningful definition. There are scientists who consider interface to be the medium which provides access to the social (ideological) component of our knowledge. In the meantime, more or less everything has become something of an ‘interface’. Particularly when you try to understand what the consensus in meaning is every time the word is used. For, the more we get used to the equipment, things and processes that are fitted with an ‘interface’, so our use of the word becomes more fastidious, subtle, sensitive, demanding. This also leads to a proportional increase in the diversity of ways you can think about ‘interaction’ and ‘interface’. It is possibly a wonder for some people, but meaning is not something that is static. The @NTI on this production is perhaps also the Rom, the Read Only Memory. Everybody is therefore invited to make his own unique journey in this renewed, and once again extensively tested and extended Rom, @NTI Rom, that is!
