Aravena made a melancholic tape about the pain and loss associated with the passage of time. Image and text modestly and poetically reflect on finality and fatality, on mankind’s inability to keep the past alive, and on oblivion. A man’s voice remembers the distant past, old black and white photos of young men and women, living or dead, images of a man, seen from behind, looking out over the water from the dock side, of a young woman tossing in her sleep ... The images seem to come from different registers of the memory’s archives in which chronology, linearity and causality are revoked in favour of another order. The ‘voice-over’ in ‘Estación Terminal’ (End station) cannot fill the lacunas between the images, but only recall the pain that is evoked by time past at an imminent parting.
