Mal de ojo could be translated into English as ‘eye pain’, but also as ‘evil eye’. In this video with music and texts by Carlos Pellegrino, both meanings seem to be applicable: A look that sees us / and goes through the scenery inside out / from the deep landscape of memory / that is watching us. ‘Mal de ojo’ starts with images of a patch of light, of close-ups of an eye with a vertical stripe of light through it. You see fragments of people in a city, close ups of parts of a naked body, a flower in full bloom ... Images flow into each other or mix together, black and white and colour alternate. There is music. Texts about the eye, about looking, looking back, being observed, roll by above and below the screen. The tenor of the texts is slightly disturbing. ‘Mal de ojo’ seems to confess the idea that it is not only us who look, but that the world about us looks back, has a memory. "Una mirada que nos vea ..." A glance that sees us.
