Open doors, closed doors, half doors, swing doors, sliding doors, revolving doors, cupboard doors, hatches, cat doors, roll-down shutters, roller blinds, venetian blinds: Volker Schreiner comes straight to the point when he urges us to speak frankly and to open the door of our hearts. Schreiner's own openness provides only a mournful view across rain-drenched roofing tiles. Is video art an open door- Or is it enough that the doors are jammed wide open for once so that a fresh breeze can blow through rusty studios and dusty galleries- Would it be possible to reach a higher plan if poverty-stricken artists were not constantly faced with closed doors when they go to apply for a subsidy- Should the government have a sturdy foot in the door or not- Or do video artists drift from one genre to another just as perfidiously as unfaithful spouses do in a farce full of slamming doors- Every artist shuts up like a clam with so many questions.
