'A loud, sweet song' is the ornithological description of the call of the 'white-collared-seed-eater' and this video opera is based on lyrical transcriptions of this. The symbiosis of image and sound is remarkable. Composer Jan Goorissen has written a sound track which can safely be called impressive. Interpretation of the images is precarious business. This video will call up associations for everybody, but as soon as you have formed your own impression, or perhaps opinion, a violent camera movement rips right through it. Art historians will have difficulty in classifying this video in the next century: figurative abstraction or abstract figuration- What 'A loud sweet song' proves is that images can convey thoughts that cannot be put into words.
