1989 - Az újságírók forradalma (1989 - The real power of television)
  Hungary 1991
Videotape, 58:53, colour & black-and-white, mono
Peking, Budapest, Leipzig, Berlin, Prague, Bucharest: for all those television viewers of short memory, or whose cynicism has once more suppressed the euphoria of that time, Gusztáv Hámos once again follows the revolutions of 1989 using his Hungarian grandmother - ''her soups are legendary'' - as counterpoint. After all, she is almost as old as this century and her descent of the stairs is at least as important as the countless reports of communist leaders on aircraft steps to which the eastern bloc was treated for decades. She casually demonstrates the only advantage that the newspaper has over television: it's so handy for holding on to the bannister. In contrast, Hámos personally discovers how powerful television is when he runs into a group of activists in a changed Hungary. Bringing out the camera is enough to level the barricades.
