What is the effect of an almost straightforward equally balanced edited compilation of fragments from four kinds of footage which are furthermore taken from divergent cultural and socio-political frameworks- A list: the close of a feature film in which platoons of soldiers parade past the flag to martial music ('Ras' by Luis Sáenz de Heredia based on the book by generalissimo Franco, 1941), an impression of a military graveyard in Maastricht for airmen from the Second World War, a ceremony in Pakistan in which a group of women sing of the heroic deeds of their ancestors who fell in the name of the Prophet and finally, a documentary about refugees from the Spanish Civil War at the inhospitable frontier. Is it perhaps the intention to confront the recursive surrender of mankind to coarse group interests with the oh so well known consequences of such an attitude of mind- Recollection could teach that the question is the answer.
