A high tech interior in metallic blue. The camera glides through it and enters a hall in a museum. As a prologue there follows a game of light and perspective in which the space is, as it were, investigated and made tangible. Then the happening takes place: the bare white walls are attacked by sculptor Arthur Barrio. Armed with chisels and knives, hammer and drill he creates something that can best be described as a rock drawing. With long strokes, Barrio attacks the sterile monotony of modern society. The scratches (they seem like claws) make the sound of a lion tearing apart its prey. Barrio dances, he fights: Fury, fury! He reminds you of Karel Appel as portrayed by cineast Jan Vrijman. The white canvas, the white wall, can only be conquered by force. It is art that can be described as a frontal attack on emptiness and narrow-mindedness. Pity that the undoubtedly official vernissage of the work with the inevitable culture bureaucrats, art lice and other sherry glasses has not been included in this video as a contrast to Barrio's creative compulsion.
