'sulsouth – voyages into mutant technologies' has been curated by Jose Ferreira. It was first shown 26 April – May 13, 2001 at the Instituto Camões, Centro Cultural Português, Maputo. Jose Ferreira is an artist born in Maputo, Mozambique. He lives and works in London.
'Jumping' comes from a series of actions/performances that refer to the physical and psychological presence of the human body. From two chairs I jumped onto the floor which was a space to experiment with presence, and tried to get outside of the picture frame without showing the effort needed to slide over the hard floor. With this action I wanted to create an image that could represent how we behave in relation to the present and how we pretend to look well and strong.
