'sulsouth – voyages into mutant technologies' has been curated by Jose Ferreira. It was first shown 26 April – May 13, 2001 at the Instituto Camões, Centro Cultural Português, Maputo. Jose Ferreira is an artist born in Maputo, Mozambique. He lives and works in London.
'Ylunga' deals with aspects of cultural and individual conflict and the definition of cultural identity. Symbolism associated with African traditional cultures, combined with ironic/metaphoric elements are the narrative structure of Ylunga. A non-verbal dialogue component is adopted to focus the attention on the narrative, which is described as typically oral African in its aesthetic essence.
