This work was commissioned by and for RETREKS under the proposition 'How the other half...' and constitute the conceptual-artistic spine of the  unSUNg CITY event: RETREKS unSUNg CITY was first shown as a 'nine story multimedia show' at Kings City Parkade, Johannesburg, September 30, 2000.
'The Hero', Murray's first video piece, is a thematic continuation of a train of thought which runs through some of his recent work. Using stark animation and a haunting soundtrack, the artist continues his deconstruction of the Superhero myth, suggesting that such convenient figures conceal more sinister agendas concerning violence, ethnic cleansing, and the intolerance that informs religious wars.
