Time Travelling with Rosalind Brodsky
  United Kingdom 1999
CD-ROM

Rosalind Brodsky was a 21st century scientist working on a research program at the 'Institute of Militronics and Advanced Time Interventionality' (I.M.A.T.I.) in which time travel was simulated in order to gain better insight into the history of the 20th century. Brodsky researched film, TV, the sixties, the Second World War, the Russian Revolution, Eastern Europe and the history of psychoanalysis. The experiences Brodsky gained during her virtual time travel were so authentic, she believed she was the only person to have discovered the true secret of time travel. A short introduction to the life of this somewhat deluded time traveller commences the 'memorial tour' at the I.M.A.T.I. in 2058, the year Rosalind Brodsky died. On this CD-ROM, Treister, who like Brodsky, comes from an Anglo/Eastern European/Jewish background, interweaves her personal history with historical events from the 20th century in an ingenious and humorous way. Treister uses collage-like images and simple but effective animations to bring Brodsky's universe to life. Previous videos that Treister made with Brodsky have also been recorded on the CD-ROM as QuickTime film clips. From Brodsky's living room in Königsschloss Neuschwanstein, you can watch an episode of the 'Time Travelling Cookery TV Show' in which she analyzes a typical German 'Schwartzwalder Kirschtorte' and makes an authentic Polish dessert from the basic ingredients. Wearing one of her 'electronic time travelling costumes', Brodsky ends up in places like the sets of a science fiction films, reports on her failed attempts to rescue her grandparents from the Holocaust and undergoes psychoanalysis with Freud and Jung amongst others, who give an extensive report on their encounters with Brodsky in their 'case histories' – to be seen in 'The Clinics'.
