The studio for new media, Futurefarmers (besides instigator Amy Franceschini, including Sascha Merg (SAS 21), Josh On, Joern Alraun, Hubert Schum and Joshua Walton), aims to transcend the digital experience. The media-mystic offensive of this collective, opposed to big business, includes Web projects, installations and the occasional CD-ROM. The work is characterized by a hip yet self-willed style of 3D-modeling and 'clean styling'. Lots of fantasy beasts and characters grafted on Japanese manga in monochrome worlds. It all looks bouncy and fine, and the interactivity is also tasteful and uses the latest advances of the makers of Director (Macromedia), but arriving at the transcendental experience requires some perseverance. On the CD-ROM 'Nutrishnia' (lovely, easy navigation) we meet five faces of the farmers of the future: OneWorld, Kosovo Elf, Concurrently, TakTak 7 and the video No Jedi (Josh On). OneWorld is an interactive 'game' that stems from the virtual acquaintance between Amy and SAS 21. Kosovo Elf is a 'game' where the player (a charming elf) has to save refugees from Chechnya. Concurrently is an Internet project that urges understanding of the new global world order. TakTak 7 is a maze game where it is possible to get stuck in your own paradigm, and you can blow yourself up. No Jedi is a video file where two boys come across a Star Wars prop that works. In short: a varied, very nicely made hodge-podge.
